The AM-1 comes in multiple forms of launched and thrown projectives, and is the primary assault grenade of Alliance forces. Its ability to stick to a target on impact, along with the large burst radius and range makes it ideal for maximizing enemy losses. The static buildup caused by the plasma warhead after release creates the blue flight signature, and gives the stickiness to targets. The launched versions require a flight time of at least 30 meters, as a safety zone, and time for the warhead to charge and arm. After that, it detonates on impact.
The handheld version is protected by a triple safety. The first is a screw-pin at the bottom of the grenade, which is normally removed with the non-firing hand. The second is a toggle selector just below the firing button, which must have the pin removed in order to move forward from safe to armed. In order to finish the charging sequence, the actual firing button must be pressed and released twice, to start the 6 second countdown.
