The AW-5 is the shotgun design split-off of the AW-1. It is a fully automatic weapon, which either fires pulses, or scatter bursts to destroy the enemy. Anything mountable on the AW-1 is mountable on this sister weapon. Its shots are not as effective due to the loss of several focusing components to make room for the scatter-burst technology, but at close range, the AW-5 is the deadlier and more effective weapon. The lost equipment also includes the beam component, which removes that particular option.

 

The changes do, however, put a far more comfortable upper limit on firepower than the AW-1, and is safer at closer ranges for the operator at maximum firepower.
