Transwarp drives:
An outgrowth of warp drive tests, this system is considered the height of engineering technology. These systems actually tunnel actively through space, instead of just squeezing it apart. The systems, traveling through a higher dimensional energy state than standard warp drives, are relatively stable, with few known bugs. One of the biggest advantages is that no nacells are needed for this drive.
When the drive is activated, it creates a type of vortex that actively separates the super-strings that bind matter together, forcing paths through to other dimensional states. This also creates the strange starbows of barely visible light seen aboard ships using this drive. The desitnation of the ship is usually set while the ship is warming up the drive, but it is possible, but very hard to change course in mid-flight. It's not recommended, though, as some force in that space is known to rip ships apart in course changes.
